JOB DESCRIPTION

Program Name: Sarah's Hope, Mount Street
Position Title: Shift Monitor
Position Classification: Non Exempt
Grade: 6
Status: PT
Hours Per Week: 16-20
Immediate Supervisor: PT Shift Supervisor

SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the FT Shift Monitor in providing direction and oversight for shift program operations, including all aspects of the center. Oversees facility upkeep, ensuring that the physical plant of the facility is properly maintained and a safe, quality environment is provided for staff, volunteers and clients.

PRIMARY DUTIES

A. Assists the FT Shift Monitor in providing direction and oversight shift operations, ensuring that the clients follow rules and regulations, and directs clients and visitors to designated areas upon entry into the shelter.
B. Provides guidance during assigned shift in the management of client activities, and assists with monitoring and directing children to required activities.
C. Responds immediately to client situations with appropriate crisis intervention and conflict resolution strategies, and crisis situations, and communicates recommendations for immediate and follow-up action to Case Manager or Shift Supervisor.
D. Conducts nightly roll call, comparing actual attendance with 'excused absence' log, and reports all unexcused absence to the shift supervisor on a daily basis.

SECONDARY DUTIES

A. Oversees the serving of meals to guests of Sarah's Hope-Mount St., participating in the preparation and serving of the meal as necessary. Oversees proper use of donated foods, tracks and acknowledges receipt of in-kind donations.
B. Assists in providing supervision of facility assistant staff during assigned shift.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

A. Assists with and attends special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
B. Upholds the vision, mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
C. Meets regularly with supervisor and attends all staff meetings and other meetings as required/directed.

D. Supports a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and works with them effectively.
E. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
B. Two (2) year's experience working with, and sensitivity to, the needs and concerns of, persons who are materially poor and/or homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
C. Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner, and work well as a team member.
D. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants, and to refer participants appropriately to case management staff.
E. An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients.
F. Ability to organize oneself, one's work, and other persons sufficiently to accomplish the required daily tasks.
G. Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyman skills.
H. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good upkeep of Sarah's Hope-Mount Street, including basic maintenance of floors, and general improvements and "handyman" tasks as needed. Also responsible for providing assistance in the supervision of shelter guests and ensures that necessary security is provided.

PRIMARY DUTIES

A. Assures that Daily/Weekly/Monthly schedule of Maintenance tasks are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.
B. Assigns tasks to guests of Sarah's Hope and assures they are carried out satisfactorily.
C. Assures bathrooms are clean and have sufficient personal supplies on a daily basis.
D. Provides Security for the shelter on a daily basis, and identifies substitutes in his absence.
E. Assumes responsibility for observing when maintenance supplies need re-ordering, and informs Director accordingly.
F. Ensures a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in all programs.

SECONDARY DUTIES

A. Assumes responsibility for storing maintenance supplies in proper location and keeping an adequate supply available for daily use. Completes daily maintenance checklist.
B. Observes where repairs/replacements may be needed and reports same to immediate supervisor for direction and follow-up.
D. Assists with the pick-up of donations and food orders as needed.
E. Completes Guest behavior reports when necessary.

Also responsible for the implementation of weekend programming and activities for adults and children.

PRIMARY DUTIES

A. Provides direction and oversight for program operations, including all aspects of the center.
B. Provides direct supervision to shift monitor and program assistant staff, including conducting regular and as needed supervision meetings and training.
C. Oversees the management and coordination of all daily programming including assignments for laundry, showers, chores, and token distribution.
D. Ensures client preparation, and attendance for Parenting Plus, life skills, job readiness, and computer classes), and communicates attendance and/or compliance issues to the Assistant Director.
E. Completes shift monitor and program assistant weekly schedules and ensures coverage for all shifts.
F. Completes intakes for new guests, entering all demographic data into the R.O.S.I.E. system, and tracks services entered into R.O.S.I.E.
G. Monitors guest's nightly attendance, comparing roll call sheets with 'excused absence' log. Follows up on reasons for 'unexcused' absences and makes recommendations to the AD/CM and Program Director regarding next steps for guests with unexcused absences.

C. Promotes an atmosphere of care, respect, and support among guests, volunteers and staff in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul.

B. Two (2) years experience working with, and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of, persons who are materially poor and/or homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
C. Experience in crisis intervention, behavior management, and/or conflict resolution.
D. An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients.
E. Good organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
F. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to facilitate reflective and educational discussion with individuals and groups
